  15. <p>     RETIRING. CARLO BERGONZI, 69, Italian opera tenor; giving his
  16. American farewell concert this week; at Carnegie Hall, New York
  17. City. Bergonzi's elegant tenor instrument led to a remarkable
  18. career that included more than 60 roles, many performed on the
  19. stage of New York's Metropolitan Opera and in recordings. Bergonzi's
  20. farewell to his Stateside fans is part of a worldwide addio
  21. that has included appearances at such former scenes of triumph
  22. as London's Covent Garden.
